Gervais Nerva (sometimes spelled Nerva Gervais) was a talented trumpeter, songwriter, and arranger, and a prominent figure of the Haitian and Caribbean music scene in the late 1970s. A creative multi‑instrumentalist, he played a significant role in the development and international reach of Caribbean music (Compas, Cadence, and the early foundations of Zouk).

He passed away prematurely on September 17, 1982.

Musical Career and Style
Gervais Nerva distinguished himself through his virtuosity on the trumpet and his ability to blend traditional Haitian rhythms with modern brass‑driven arrangements. Both a studio and stage musician, he collaborated with many major artists of the Afro‑Caribbean scene, including the Haitian guitarist and arranger Ti‑Jack.

Alongside his collaborations, he established himself as a bandleader and musical director, surrounding himself with renowned musicians (such as Simon Jurad on guitar and Alex Theodose on bass) to bring his own compositions to life.

Major Work: C’Est Ou Meme ! (1978)
In 1978, he released his emblematic album under the Martinican label 3A Production: C’Est Ou Meme !. Entirely written and composed by him, this vinyl record showcases his brilliance as an arranger.
